A supply block stops all your production. A few seconds blocked several times a game adds up to a whole army that never existed.
The rule
Build supply when you have about 8 supply left early on, and more margin when you produce from many buildings at once.
During fights
That's when it's forgotten most. If you're about to fight, queue supply before you go in.
Practice it with the Never supply blocked routine.
